All over the world there are wrecks hidden beneath the sea that lie beyond the depth of normal recreational diving.
Is it possible to dive in remote spots to depths of one hundred meters or more? It's not difficult and many "wreck hunters" do so. However, these divers have a specially equipped support ship and a team of professionals standing by.
Can divers who dive for their own pleasure also do it, using their precious "vacation time" and paying their own expenses? In 2005 the PSS Technical Training division created "D.W.E.L.L.E.R." the Deep Wreck Exploration with Light and Limited Research program to check the practicalities of this challenge.
The research program can already boast various successes. Its most renowned include: assistance in making a documentary about recovering the treasure from the wreck of the paddle-steamer "Polluce", identification and exploration of the minesweeper "FR-70", discovery and documentation of the wrecks of the steamboats "Zealot", "Turkia" and "Cape Clear" in the Red Sea. The latest expedition, October 2009, documented the wreck of the "S.S. Maidan" that lies on the seabed to the south of Rocky Island (Zabargad) at a depth of 100 to 120 meters (330 - 370 feet).
