You are well-prepared in first aid techniques and cardiopulmonary resuscitation and have a valid PSS First Aid C.P.R. certification. You are now of help to your diving buddies, however in the case of an emergency due to a decompression incident (embolism or decompression pathology) there is very little you can do if you are not able to help the casualty breathe pure oxygen. This is why PSS has designed a specific course called "Oxygen in Diving Emergencies". This is an essential completion for divers to the first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses and, for this reason, it is also a compulsory step towards obtaining any PSS professional qualification.
These courses have allowed you to become a well-prepared rescuer, ready to deal with an emergency and the Oxygen in Diving Emergencies course will enable you to acquire a rational and efficient approach to diving emergencies and teach you how to take action in an effective and competent manner. You will learn the various systems for breathing oxygen: on demand, with continuous flow at low, medium or high concentrations, etc. In this way you will become a valid and reassuring dive buddy.
On successfully completing the course you will be awarded the PSS Emergency Procedures - Oxygen in Diving Emergencies qualification certifying your ability in the rescue procedures you have learned.
The Oxygen in Diving Emergencies qualification is subject to expiry every two years due to the continuous changes to the international directives regarding first aid techniques and oxygen administration for divers. The qualification must be renewed before expiry, otherwise you will have to do the course again.
