The courses in the PSS Recreational division belong to the branch of diving generally defined as "recreational".
This term is intended to mean diving activities carried out for personal enjoyment as a pleasant way for a person to spend his or her free time.
In reality, over the years the meaning of the term has changed until it has now come to mean "diving activities carried out within certain well-defined limits". Exceeding these limits you enter an area of diving defined as "technical" (the subject of the PSS Technical courses). In effect, technical divers also dive for their own enjoyment, while only a few divers dive as a profession: guides, instructors and their assistants.
The courses in the PSS Recreational division are carried out using an open circuit aqualung, air or nitrox, and not deeper than 40 meters and within the maximum no-stop dive times.
