IT Staff Instructor – PSS
First step in instructor training: you join the staff of instructor courses and can independently conduct Assistant Instructor programs.

If you are an active MSDT and want to make the leap into teacher training, here you learn to assess, assist and develop instructor candidates, working alongside the Instructor Trainer.

How it works
You take part in the and (theory, confined water, open water) of a complete Assistant Instructor course; you deliver at least one theory lesson and carry out several “concordant” evaluations with the Instructor Trainer; you provide targeted coaching to candidates. Minimum hours are required between theory and practice.
- Timing: ~10 h theory; ≥3 h dry assistance; ≥5 h in the water.
- Required evaluations: candidates’ theory, confined and open-water lessons, plus a surface rescue.
- Max ratios: pool 8:1; large basins 6:1; open water 6:1.
Essential prerequisites
- PSS Master Scuba Diver Trainer qualification in Active status.
- At least 5 OWD, 5 AOWD, 1 Deep Diver, 1 Scuba Rescue Diver and 1 Divemaster certified.
- At least 1 year of activity as a Scuba Instructor.
- Medical fitness
Qualifications at the end
- Take part as active staff in instructor training courses.
- Independently conduct PSS Assistant Instructor courses.
Standards and recognition
A PSS internal qualification (there is no dedicated ISO standard). PSS certifications are internationally recognized: PSS Worldwide is a member of RSTC, the consortium that brings together the main scuba training agencies worldwide.
